FENCE LAYOUT

Setting Up Your Fence Layout

This is a great idea for those attempting to purchase their own materials and install themselves or a private contractor, but also for the customer looking to get ballpark figures quickly without requiring installers to make a site visit with you to do the measurements and layout.

Use the below steps and diagram to set up your fence layout

1. SET UP FENCE AREA

Put a stake in the ground at each corner of the desired fence area, and one every 8 feet, as the stakes indicate the placement of the posts.

2. DECIDE ON GATES

Think about where you would place your gate(s). Put a stake in the ground at the corners of each gate. The most common gate widths are 3'. 4', and 5' for single gates, and 6' or 8' for double gates.

3. DETERMINE NUMBER OF SECTIONS

Measure the total length of the fence and divide by 8, as most panels are sold in 8' sections. (If using 6' sections, divide by 6). If your total is not exactly divisible by 8, then round up. Then either you or the fabricator of your fence will have to cut the fence to match your needs. Make sure to discuss this with your sales representative.

4. DETERMINE POSTS

Count the number of different posts you will need. (Refer to diagram below)

Here is a tip for providing sketches to us

Your sketch does not need to be as detailed as the sketch above. Especially if you are just looking for an installation quote, simpler sketches will be just as helpful. Here are a few examples of sketches that provide us with the basics to begin your estimate.
